We arrived

20 hours of flying time with layovers in Chicago, Brussels and Freeport Sierra Leone. We took off on Monday at 1 p.m. and arrived on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. I never want to fly again. I think I may walk home when I'm done here.

We Traveled with another couple to Liberia. They are going to be stationed in one of the rural towns and be there to help two of the branches. This was when we were getting our driver's license. Elder McGlochlin and I were taking the eye test.

This is our truck. It is a four-wheel drive Toyota pickup. It is almost new.  We will need it. Most of the roads here are dirt. During the rainy season the amount of mud is impressive.

Most of the church cars in the country have "missionary" across the hood. It gets you stopped less at police checkpoints.

We went to church today at one of the local branches. They meet in the Monrovia stake center.
Remarkable reverence. When we arrived all of the children and most of the adults were setting reading either their scriptures or the hymn book.

This is after church looking at the only parking lot. At this time three congregations were inside of the building. Other than the car that we drove in with the missionaries there was only one other vehicle in the entire parking lot. Everybody either walked or took public transportation. The vehicles on the left were two three-wheel taxis.

This is the chapel. No Air conditioning. Only ceiling fans. The windows on both sides were shut for some reason. Cheryl and I were asked to bear our testimonies at the beginning of the meeting.

The members who attended here were very impressive. They were very well versed in the doctrine and were well acquainted with their scriptures. Not only are almost everyone in this country a Christian but most of them attend some type of church.

I don't think they get very many visitors to this country. We have seen very few non-native people.

This is our apartment complex. You can see our unit on the third floor above the wall on the right. The security wall has 24-hour guards.

This is view of ocean from one of our windows.

We are almost embarrassed by our apartment being so nice. It is two bedrooms with 2 1/2 bathrooms. We have two balconies that both overlook the pool. I haven't found out what the amount of rent is yet.

Here is one of two master bedrooms.

This is a view of the dining area and living room from the kitchen.

About 200 yards down the street from our apartment is a clean and beautiful beach.

We spent some time today, Sunday, working on some projects that were left over for us. The couple before us had to go home early because of health problems. We have six outstanding projects. One village water project, One remodeling of a health clinic, two school repairs and expansion, one health clinic repair and expansion and a project to build bathrooms in a village.
