The presidential election is almost here

This is Brother John Dolo he is a member of the Harbell branch. We visited him in the hospital with the branch president. He works for the Firestone rubber company. As does everybody in the Harbell branch. While he was working he cut his finger. They were not able to save it so he lost it just above the knuckle.

He was in the Firestone Rubber Company hospital. Firestone rubber provides the housing, the schools and the medical for all their employees. What was impressive about the hospital is that it was so much better than the public hospitals we have been visiting in Liberia. It actually had air conditioning in all the rooms and sheets on the bed.

It took us about two and a half hours to get home from church today. There was a political rally for one of the presidential candidates. The election is in about 3 or 4 weeks. The supporters were in trucks, vans, taxis and motorcycles.

There were lots of supporters just walking along the street. The supporters were going both directions so I couldn't figure out exactly what was going on. It was also pouring rain during the whole time. Since it's warm when it rains people don't seem to mind as much.

The election is expected to be without violence and fair. This is a rare thing in africa. We'll probably have to stay in our apartment for a couple days before and after the election just to be sure.

The two missionaries closest to Cheryl and I are the Destin's. They are brand new on their mission from the St George Utah area. They will be stationed in some small little village about 2 hours from us. Their home will be far more challenging then where we live. Their electricity will be from a generator. Generators are usually pretty noisy and distracting.

The town where they live will have no restaurants where westerners would eat nor will they have any significant grocery stores. They'll have to stock up on groceries when they come into our town which will be probably about once every 2 months or so. There will be a tall chain link fence around their house and they will have a guard to watch over them.

We had a dinner in the restaurant on the top floor of the Royal Grand hotel. Cheryl and I had sushi and it was delicious.

We visited the Buchanan Hospital once again. We are working on a project there.  We're going to build them an incinerator so they can burn the trash that's behind one of their buildings

This is one of the bathroom stalls in the maternity room. We're going to replace them with regular toilets and remodel the showers. This Regional government Hospital is in an amazingly run down condition. It's sad to see all of the patients, especially the delivering mothers needing care and this is the best that is offered to them. Hopefully over the next few years we can do enough projects here to significantly improve the level of care.
