I got to chat with Elder Bednar and Elder Kearon

Elder Bednar and Elder Kearon Visited Liberia for a day. The first thing they did was meet with all the missionaries.  If you look closely Cheryl and I are part of the group in the very back who are standing. Elder Bednar had us stand and said nice things about senior missionaries.

The main reason for the visit is that they met with the new president of Liberia, President Bokai. President Bokai seems to be a nice man who is quite familiar with the church and almost attended general conference a few years ago.

After the missionary meeting, but before the meeting with the president the two elders and their entourage came to the mission president's house for a meal. Cheryl and I had the assignment to pick up the meal from the hotel and bring it to the mission home. Sister Thomas, the mission president's wife asked if we would stay and help serve. While we were there both Elder Kearon and Elder Bednar took time and came and had a nice conversation with me.

The meeting they had with the missionaries went well. It was mostly Elder Bednar. He spent about an hour talking with them and then had others join in. In total there were four seventies, three of them were in the area presidency, one area 70 and the two Apostles. Most of them had their wives there also. The entire meeting was three hours.  The last hour was answering questions from the missionaries.

The missionaries were told to take only modest notes. Not to write down everything they said but to write down the inspired thoughts they received during the meeting that was revelation meant specifically for them. I did that. I wrote down about 6 things.

Elder Bednar and Kieran looked a little tired. Ours was the last stop of their long West African trip.  When you see them in person you realize the sacrifice they make to do what they do. They work so hard and they serve in their responsibility for their entire life.  When they're speaking in front of groups or engaging with people they seem to be energized. When you see them in person you realize they're just men but you get a sense of the power and sacredness of the responsibility they have been called to.

We visited our project at Tubmanburg Government Hospital. It's going well. We are putting in new tile in a lot of the building.

We are also re-roofing the outpatient area. That part is mostly done. The big part we have left is new doors in a lot of the rooms and new windows. We are also purchasing some medical equipment for them and beds and cribs and medical gowns.

The Buchanan Government Hospital project is also going well. Some of the new washing machines we purchased for them have been installed.

This is some of the patient and medical staff clothing we purchased. Till now they didn't have much and what they did have they had to wash my hand. The new roof is just about done and they have almost finished reinstalling the solar panels. The solar panels were a problem because the hospital was complaining they couldn't afford the diesel to run the generator when the solar wasn't providing the electrical.

Signs like this for sports betting Apps are everywhere. These people are so poor and they are enticed to spend their money with the hope of winning big. It seemed sad. They end up throwing away what little money they do have.

The last project we visited this week was Pipeline Public School. This is the new roof we put on all of their buildings.

We put tile down in the Kindergarten room so the kids could play on the floor.

Almost all of the electrical that we're installing in all of the classrooms are done. Four light bulbs and two plugs in each room.
